Prince Party, South OC, Old Jews and Rambling Man …

Well, the Prince Oscar after-party turned out to be kind of a dud … at least from a photo standpoint. There were a few big names there but they all for some reason or another snuck into the club without walking the red carpet. So it turned out to be much less fun than I’d hoped. The most interesting part of the night was seeing Prince for a few seconds and checking out his custom limo.

For my Eurofriends, Mika made an appearance although I was one of the few who actually knew who he was. As big as he is in Europe, he’s barely known here.

For a reason I can’t explain, spent a day down in south Orange County just exploring.  Visited the mission in San Juan Capistrano which was human scale and quite nice, especially without a lot of tourists roaming around.

Also had a look at the harbor in Dana Point.  It’s not so special except for the rather massive gathering of birds along the beach combined with the dearth of humans.

If you want to see a funny website, check out www.oldjewstellingjokes.com.  It’s just what the web address says, a website with a collection of old Jews telling their favorite jokes.  You can’t help but laugh, even at the cornier ones.

Here’s an important news story from a few weeks back that I missed:

Frenchman Lluis Colet broke the world record for the longest speech after rambling nonstop for 124 hours about Spanish painter Salvador Dali, Catalan culture and other topics.  The 62-year-old Catalan and local government worker spoke for five straight days and four nights to set the record in the southern French town of Perpignan.

The previous record was held by an Indian man who delivered a 120-hour speech. Colet began speaking at Perpignan’s railway station on Monday by reciting the works of famous authors or using some of his own writing. He also spoke profusely about Dali, a painter he admires, and Catalan culture.  “This is a big day for me and I dedicate this record to all those who defend Catalan language and culture,” he said, his voice fainter after five days of nonstop talking.

And finally, some photos of the week …
