Gay Pride, Fete de la Musique, MJ Tribute & Rent My Apartment

A great annual event took place in Paris this last week; in fact, two great annual events. The first was the seriously colorful Gay Pride parade that is always fun to see. No exception this year.

Boulevard Saint-Michel and Boulevard Saint-Germain were both covered with parader watchers and participants. There was even an American contingent holding Anti-Prop 8 signs marching through the streets. And of course the normal debauchery that takes place after many in the parade spent hours drinking and marching in the hot sun.

The other event that took place this week was the Fete de la Musique, the annual street music fair with hundreds and hundreds of musicians – some professional, some definitely not – hitting the streets, bars and music halls to play concerts, almost all for free. In recent years I’ve found this event, which takes place every year on the longest day of the year (June 21), too crowded and mostly for young kids. But this year, there was a pretty good vibe in the street, less manic than in the past. It’s a really great event, especially with so many international musicians that live here in Paris.

The day after the shocking death of Michael Jackson, a spontaneous crowd gathered in front of Notre Dame to pay tribute.

The crowd built quickly, soon filling the area in front of the cathedral. They sang many of Jackson’s songs (in very creative English), set up small shrines and of course there were a few Jackson impersonators.

And finally, if you or someone you know is interested in coming for a visit to Paris, my apartment is available to rent from August 24 through Sept 30. It’s a great opportunity for someone to come to Paris for a late summer visit. Don’t hesitate to contact me for more information. To see some images of the apartment, CLICK HERE.

Great parade pictures but the one that actually brought tears to my eyes was the picture of the young girl holding up the “Merci” sign….You can see the sadness in her face…If a picture is worth a thousand words this one did it…
