Jimmy Buffett, Umbrella Condom, Burning Building & the Other Macarons …

Shot another old-time musical legend this week … Jimmy Buffett. He must be known by exactly 3 French people but the place (La Cigale) was completely packed … with Americans.

Buffett came out and jammed with his band and looked like he was having a better time than anyone. And that’s saying something; the crowd was not young but they were partying and carrying on as if they were filming a “Seniors Gone Wild” episode.

Saw a few interesting things while just roaming the streets this week. The first was what can best be described as an umbrella condom. Often when you walk into a store here in Paris there is a receptacle for you to put your umbrella in so that you don’t get water everywhere in the store. Well, some clever person invented a device that you put your wet umbrella into and it automatically wraps it in plastic.

I’m planning on going back there with a fresh baguette sometime soon.

It’s not often that you walk out of restaurant and find a building on fire just down the street. But here, it’s just another scene in the street theater that makes up this city.

And finally, this week I learned that there is a second kind of “macaron” in France. Just to clarify, I’m talking about macarOns and not macarOOns. In case you’ve never seen a classic French macaron, they look like THIS. Well this last week there was a Southwest festival along the Seine just across from Notre Dame and a vendor was selling another form of macaron.

They were delicious and came in a variety of beautiful colors and flavors. Anyone ever seen these kinds of macarons before?
