Chocolate, La Boheme, MTV and Berlin

I somehow forgot to mention it but a couple weeks back I had the (annual) pleasure to shoot the Salon du Chocolat, where the best chocolatiers in the world get together and compete to be the king.

And yes, they DO give out samples. The non-edible highlight of the show was a fashion show with various French personalities strolling down the cat walk in clothing made (mostly) of chocolate.

Another treat of the non-edible variety happened last week. A friend of mine is an opera singer and got me in to watch the final rehearsal of “La Boheme”, which just opened in Paris. The sets and performances were beautiful but I was reminded that opera only interests me for about an hour or so. And unfortunately no photos were allowed or else you’d see some here.

I headed off to Berlin this week to cover two wildly different events – the MTV Europe Music Awards and the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall.

The award show was moderately entertaining but unfortunately I wasn’t allowed to shoot during the show, only before and after. The coolest part of the show was that U2 did 5 songs live at the Brandenburg Gate and the performance was broadcast during the show.

I’m currently in Berlin shooting various events leading up to Monday’s anniversary celebration. It should be quite a scene. It’s been 21 years since I’ve been to Berlin – the last time I was here I actually went through Checkpoint Charlie – and suffice it to say for now that I’m massively impressed with this place. I’m thinking it’s the most impressive city I’ve ever seen. More on this next week …
