Grammy Party, Persistence, Mortgage Scandal & Claude Francois …

The annual Clive Davis Pre-Grammy party was on my shooting schedule this week. Lots of lunatics on the red carpet. My favorite sighting was probably the Black Eyed Peas because they seem to me to actually be animated characters that have morphed into human form.

The Black Eyed Peas

I don’t care much about their music but they are entertaining at least. There was some actual talent there including Carlos Santana, Herbie Hancock, Smokey Robinson and Wyclef Jean to name some.

You can see some images from the red carpet HERE.

I came across a story a little while back that caught my attention. A South Korean woman – 68 year old Cha So Soon (pardon the pun) – finally passed her written exam for a driving license – on her 950th attempt.

She had been trying for over 4 years before to get the 60 out of 100 points required to pass the test and had spent more than $4,200 on application fees. If that doesn’t teach us all about persistence (and bad test taking skills), nothing will.

If you’ve been involved or interested in either buying or selling real estate in the last year or two, and like me hadn’t been able to figure out why banks were not letting many “short sales” happen, read THIS ARTICLE. I’ve been puzzled over this last year trying to figure out why a bank lets a distressed property go all the way to foreclosure and ultimately received a fraction of what the outstanding loan amount on a property is instead of agreeing to a short sale and receiving usually a significantly higher amount. It made no sense to me or anyone else I’d been speaking with. Thankfully some good journalism helped explain.

If you find yourself in a bad mood sometime this week, click on the video of Claude Francois below and enjoy what was a huge hit in France a number of years ago.

Two facts I like about Claude Francois: (1) He wrote “Comme d’habitude,” the original version of Frank Sinatra’s “My Way.” (2) He died by accidentally electrocuting himself in his bathtub while trying to straighten a light bulb.
