Chocolat, Ipad mini, Netanyahu, Masters Tennis and Blimps

Shot the annual Salon du Chocolat with its catwalk filled with chocolate covered models. It’s fun seeing them at the end of the show when their outfits start to melt.

Yet another Apple release, this time the new iPad mini. Saw all the lunatics camped out in front of the store although I have to say there were a lot less than there usually are. Incredible the amount of foreigners there are at the product launches.

I’d say 85% of the people who bought the new iPad were foreigners (not French) and of those, I’d guess 50% were black market criminals from Eastern Europe. They literally show up in gangs of 20 scruffy looking men each holding fistfuls of cash. I guess they can sell these products for a huge markup back wherever they’re from before Apple launches these products in their countries.

Went back to the Elysee Palace to photograph the visit of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. He was here to meet for the first time privately with French President Hollande to discuss how to deal with Iran’s nuclear program. I’m sure they worked everything out.

A cool story in tennis. A Polish player named Jerzy Janowicz has won the hearts of Paris tennis fans. After not being able to enter the Australian Open earlier this year because he didn’t have enough money to travel, he came to Paris to try to qualify for the BNP Paribas Masters tournament.

Not only did he qualify, he proceeded to beat 5 straight top 20 players, including Andy Murray, and is now in the finals. After winning his semifinal match, he was moved to tears and despite beating a French player (Gilles Simon), the crowd was really behind him. It’s going to be tough for #4 seed David Ferrer to beat this guy in the final but either way, it’s nice to see an underdog succeed at this level.

And finally, in case you haven’t been on a blimp lately:
——
A German zeppelin company says it is nearing agreement with a company in Paris that plans to offer flights around the Eiffel Tower. The company, Air Paris, already has a website showing the zeppelin over Paris. French air authorities have not yet given the necessary permission, however, the Air Paris website says it will “soon” allow visitors to book zeppelin tours starting in July 2013.

The zeppelins will fly 300 meters above Paris and Versailles, in cabins with “large panoramic windows.” The flights will not be cheap, 450 euros per person. According to the company, there will be little disturbance from the balloon, whose noise is comparable to that of “a dishwasher.”
——
I’m sure the French will be thrilled at the idea of a German blimp flying above the city.
